My name is Donald Key and the purpose of this message is to make everyone (irrespective of denomination) aware of the devastating effects of pornography. I pray that the testimony and message you'll read will bless your heart, bring a new awareness about pornography and show you that there is light at the end of the tunnel-and that light is JESUS CHRIST !
In this message I will use my life as an example of what pornography can do to influence and even to destroy lives. Further, to show that a complete surrender to our Lord Jesus Christ can turn it all around.
Praise God, there is hope!
I know from PERSONAL experience that many Pastors are reluctant to say much to their congregation about pornography and sexual sin because of the sensitive nature as well as the fact they don't wish to "step on toes". There is the added problem of over 50% of all Pastors interviewed having "secret sin" in their own lives.
I'll guarantee you that there are people who will read this and say,
"Why in the world would I want to read a message about pornography?"
Pay attention and you will understand. There is something in this message that everyone needs to know.
Grandparents, you need to be made aware of the dangers of pornography for your children and grandchildren.
Parents, you need to read this not only for your kids, but yourselves and your spouses.
Teens, you need to know because you are at the perfect age for Satan to tempt you with matters such as this.
Youngsters need to know, because pornography is in the grade schools as much as drugs are and they need to know the consequences of getting involved with it.
My story will help you see what I mean:
When I was 10 years old, an older neighbor boy showed me my first pornographic pictures. I wish I could say it had no impact and went no farther, but I can't. I, like so many others, kids and adults alike, was hooked after seeing porn for the first time. For me it was just the beginning of a 45-year long problem that has ruined or adversely affected many, many lives. Pornography was like drugs or alcohol to me. Once I got a taste of it, I couldn't leave it alone and my obsession with it became worse and worse. I began to isolate myself and spend more and more time with the pornography and self-indulgence. As the years passed and the porn became more and more graphic, my addiction to it became even worse. And I didn't even have it available at my fingertips, as it is these days! In spite of the parental blocks, A YOUNG PERSON who knows their way around a computer can access this filth if they want to do so. (can't you !?)
Porn became the focus of my life.
By the time I first married at 18, I had already been married to porn for 8 years. My new wife could not compete with the porn. Due to makeup and airbrushing techniques the porn stars seemed to be perfect. Men, our wives can't compete with the unreal and ladies,the same applies to you. Statistics show that 28% of all visitors to pornographic websites are WOMEN. That's 9.4 million women accessing adult web sites each month. Over the next 43 years I went through 5 failed marriages, all of which were destroyed by the pornography and the indecent exposure that developed as part of it. You may think it's no big deal to watch a little bit of porn, but porn is worse than drugs or alcohol because we don't have a natural desire for drugs or alcohol, but we do have a God given desire for sex (marital sex).
A beautiful desire that we allow Satan to turn into filthy sin when we lust after porn.
Listen, I have 10 wonderful children from those marriages, some of whom want nothing to do with me because of the embarrassment and humiliation I've caused them by my arrests, which, of course, were in the newspapers. I wasn't a husband or a father. My first love was porn. I would sneak off to be by myself and waste time with my porn instead of spending time with my wife and kids. I would actually start fights with my wife so I could leave (or she would) and I could spend time alone with my porn. (Does any of this sound familiar?) I spent lots of money on this filth, which my family needed, but I didn't care.
I want to pause from the story for a few moments to give a few statistics about the porn industry. In the U.S. 13.33 billion dollars was spent on porn last year. This is more than the total revenue of professional football, baseball and basketball franchises COMBINED.That should get your attention and show you how enormous the problem is.
The average age of the first internet exposure to porn is 11 years old.
Attention parents! : 8 to 16 year olds having viewed porn online -90% (most while doing homework)
The largest consumer of internet porn is the age group of 12 to 17.
The statistics go on and on. But this is the one that really should make you pay attention: Christians who said that porn was a problem in the home, 47% !!
The point I was making is that people who have porn addictions spend lots of money on the filth.
All I cared about was viewing my XXX movies and self-gratification. I was arrested several times through the years for indecent exposure and was finally sent to prison. Now some might say, "Well, just because someone sort of gets hooked on a little porn doesn't mean they are going to get into indecent exposure."
No, it sure doesn't- BUT there is conclusive proof that most rapists and child molesters have porn addictions also.
Get the point?
Don't underestimate porn's influence!
And, let me tell you something else- There is no such thing as being 'a little bit hooked' on porn anymore than you can be 'a little bit hooked' on hard drugs.
